Can you keep a secret?

I grew up sick.

Let me clarify.

I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.

Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness.

When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naรฏve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.

Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.

Secrets that cost us everything to keep.

That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.

Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.

And all were punished.⁣⁣

My greatest hope is to be in all-consuming love. My biggest fear is to be in all-consuming love.

I want to be claimed and owned and ruled and possessed by love. It's that expecting too much?

ENGLISH VERSION
ARC provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.

I chose to read this duet attracted by a particular teaser: My greatest hope is to be in all-consuming love. My biggest fear is to be in all-consuming love. Can totalizing love be both the greatest hope and the greatest fear of a person? Intrigued by these words and with the certainty that Kate Stewart is an author who always manages to make me fall in love with her stories, I entered blindfolded into the city of Triple Falls, just as happens to the protagonist, Cecelia Horner. Fresh out of graduation, the girl promises her father to spend a year under his supervision, working for him in his plant, so as to guarantee access to the inheritance. For Cecelia this is an opportunity not to be missed in order to achieve that economic independence that serves her and her mother, who raised her alone when her father refused both; therefore she accepts willingly, not imagining that during the first three summer months her life will be shaken by the waves of change.
Welcomed in a world of which the young woman does not know the rules, a universe of black ravens where only loyalty, freedom and justice are counted, Cecelia is willing to let herself go and say yes to every new path, forgetting the duties of life. She has hers young roots in the right soil where she can snoop around herself, on the limits she can touch and perhaps go beyond. Under the bright blinding sun and the mysterious and attractive night moon, Cecelia will learn on her skin, inside her bones and with the depth of her heart what is love, that she has always wanted, the love that makes her stomach tremble, filling it with butterflies and lightning, that sweet feeling that ignite the blood in her veins and crosses her mind like a tender cloud.
I want to be claimed and possessed, ruled and possessed by love. It's that expecting too much?
Kate Stewart captures the absolute attention of the reader from the prologue, but I would not have been able to imagine even in my most heated fantasies the turn of events that Cecelia finds to find in such a young age. In her shoes I would have done the same, because a heart that truly loves and gives everything without hesitation knows no boundaries... but this, perhaps, is not always a good thing. Love is a positive universal force, of course, but also endowed with a negative charge that blinds, which makes reason deaf and that Cecelia cannot afford, not with so much at stake for her.
An unconventional love story, an original cross-section of growth and training finely noticed from the psychological point of view, with several sensual high tension moments and absolutely dramatic ones that breaks the heart. The characters, starting from Cecelia, are unique, attractive, and they created an addictions that’s hard to ignore... and when you get to the last pages, you’ll see the few certainties that you had collected on the street explode in your face. An unmissable reading for those who are not afraid to dare, in war and in love.
